Track and Field at the 2025 CANUSA Games – Hamilton, Ontario | August 8th to 10th

The 2025 CANUSA Games will feature an exciting Track and Field competition from August 8th to 10th in Hamilton, Ontario. Athletes from Hamilton and Flint, Michigan, will come together to compete in a variety of events, showcasing their speed, strength, and athleticism while building friendships through the spirit of competition.

General Information – Track and Field at the CANUSA Games

The Track and Field competition will take place at Mohawk Sports Park in Hamilton, offering athletes the chance to compete in multiple events such as sprints, long-distance races, relays, field events, and more. This event will be part of the 2025 CANUSA Games and will feature exciting, competitive races and field events.

Tryouts & Practices

  • Tryouts and Practices: Tryouts and practices for Track and Field at the 2025 CANUSA Games are free of charge. All athletes interested in participating should attend the tryouts to improve their skills and prepare for the Games.
  • Commitment Requirement: Athletes are expected to attend 80% of practices leading up to the Games. Consistent attendance is important for team selection and preparation for the event.

Registration & Costs

While tryouts and practices are free, there will be a registration fee for the 2025 CANUSA Games once teams are finalized. If an athlete is unable to pay the registration fee, CANUSA offers scholarships and support to ensure every athlete has the opportunity to participate. More information about how to apply for financial assistance will be available soon.

Billeting Requirement for CANUSA Families

As Hamilton is the host city for the 2025 CANUSA Games, all Hamilton families are required to billet a Flint athlete for the weekend of the event. Billeting helps reduce costs and creates an opportunity for athletes to connect with families from both cities.

Vulnerable Sector Check:
Hamilton parents hosting Flint athletes will need to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Hamilton Police Service. For more details on how to obtain this check, please visit the official CANUSA Housing & Screening Information.

  • Game Registration: Once teams are finalized, registration for the 2025 CANUSA Games will open, with more information to follow.

Meet Val Sarjeant, a powerhouse in the world of track and field with a heart dedicated to coaching and community. For years, Val has served as the CANUSA Track & Field Coordinator, bringing boundless energy and organization to youth athletics.

But his journey in track and field doesn’t stop there. Val’s a former two-time member of the Canadian National Track & Field Team, showcasing his talent on the international stage. Nowadays, he’s the go-to coach, leading the way as Head Para Athletics Coach for the Hamilton Olympic Club and as Head Coach for Stoney Creek Athletics.

Marline Sarjeant

Marline Sarjeant has a rich history in athletics, boasting a distinguished career as a former sprinter and hurdler. Marline also had the honor of being a torch runner for the CANUSA Games, a testament to her enduring commitment to sports and community. Her administrative and leadership skills were honed during her tenure as an Administrator and Secretary at the Hamilton Olympic Club. Marline’s dedication to athletic development extends to coaching roles with the Special Olympics and the SCA, and she serves as a Run, Jump, Throw (RJT) instructor.

Beyond her personal achievements, Marline, along with her husband Val Sarjeant and their daughters Vanessa and Whitney, are integral figures in their community, particularly in sports and athletics. They are proud recipients of the Marg Brokenshire Award, recognizing their significant contributions. Marline also leads the St. James Children’s Ministry, further illustrating her commitment to youth. The CANUSA Games hold a special place in her heart, symbolizing the friendships, excitement, and shared experiences that unite children and parents in the joy of sports.


Rowan’s Law concussion awareness program

is mandatory and will be part of the registration process for all sports.
