This year at the CANUSA Games in Flint, we are dedicating our efforts to promote positive mental health in memory of our dear friend, Greg Mills. As a dedicated board member and president, Greg’s approach to fostering connections with athletes was simple yet profound: he would always start a conversation with, “You good?” This small phrase often led to meaningful dialogues, emphasizing the importance of checking in on one another.
Greg Mills was more than just a leader; he was a friend to all athletes, always taking the time to engage in conversations. His genuine concern and the way he started conversations have inspired us to launch the “You Good?” campaign. By walking around the games with speech bubbles asking “You Good?”, the CANUSA Team aims to spark healthy conversations and ensure that every athlete feels supported.
The “You Good?” campaign is not about knowing exactly what to say; it’s about being present and showing concern. Sometimes, simply asking someone how they are doing can make a world of difference. We hope that through this initiative, young athletes will be reminded to engage in conversations with their peers, creating a supportive community where everyone feels heard and valued.
At the CANUSA Games, we strive to create a positive space for all athletes, both on and off the playing field. Open conversations about mental health are crucial, and we are committed to fostering an environment where these dialogues can happen freely. By promoting the “You Good?” campaign, we aim to break down barriers and encourage athletes to be there for one another, not just as teammates, but as friends.
We invite everyone at the CANUSA Games to join us in honoring Greg Mills’ legacy by participating in the “You Good?” campaign. Let’s make this year’s games not only a celebration of athletic excellence but also a testament to the power of supportive conversations. Together, we can create a community where asking “You good?” becomes a natural part of our interactions.
Remember, it’s not about having the perfect words; it’s about showing up and caring. So, as we gather for this year’s CANUSA Games, let’s take a moment to ask each other, “You good?” and continue the legacy of compassion and connection that Greg Mills so beautifully embodied.
